Part-Time Veterinary Technician/Assistant in our weekly spay/neuter clinic
The Antietam Humane Society is seeking a veterinary technician to assist in our weekly spay/neuter clinic. Clinics are typically held 1-2 days per week (Wednesdays and Fridays) and is open to TNR and house cats as well as shelter animals. Our clinic serves our community by offering low-cost surgical and wellness services to animals in need.
Responsibilities
- Assists veterinarian in weekly spay and neuter clinic
- Assist veterinary assistants in prepping animals for surgery
- Administer and monitor sedatives and anesthesia
- Maintain surgical packs
- Administer vaccinations
- Perform simple blood tests
- Discuss any issues with clients dropping off animals for surgery
- Provide clear discharge instructions to clients picking up animals
Skills
- Two or more years working in a veterinary clinic, shelter, or HQHVSN clinic
- Veterinary Technician License preferred, but will accept student in Technician program or several years of veterinary assistant experience
- Ability to adapt to community dynamics
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self-motivated individual with the ability to perform without direct supervision
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and related software
- Fast learner
The best candidate will be comfortable working with both people and animals in a fast-paced surgical environment. Strong organizational skills are needed to keep all parts of the clinic functioning. Compassion for both people and animals is a must.
